Russia: DBS Taps Harmonic HD Compression Encoders

February 7, 2007
Harmonic Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., said this week that NTV-Plus, a major satellite service provider in Russia and the Ukraine with more than half a million subscribers, will deploy its DiviCom Electra 7000 HD MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoders for NTV-Plus's new HD service.

The encoders were introduced globally last July and so far, according to a joint statement issued in Moscow, more than 20 operators in North America and elsewhere have selected the 7000 series for their respective HD services.

NTV-Plus said it has also opted for Harmonic's Electra 1000 SD MPEG-2 encoders and its DiviTrackIP statistical multiplexing to compress and deliver locally encoded and re-multiplexed standard definition video and audio.
