Raycom Media Converts to Panasonic P2

Raycom Media will soon convert its newsgathering operations to Panasonic's P2 format.

WXIX-TV, a Fox affiliate in Cincinnati and Richmond, Va. affiliate WTVR-TV are the first two Raycom stations to adopt P2. Together, the stations are purchasing 17 P2 cameras, 17 P2 store drives and four HD P2 handheld cameras. Most of the stations are upgrading from the Panasonic 25 Mbps DVCPRO format equipment.

The Montgomery, Ala.-based company owns and operates 37 stations and covers more than 10 percent of U.S. television households.

Panasonic's DVCPRO-compatible P2 format has been adopted by more than 60 U.S. TV stations, according to the company. P2 offers nonlinear acquisition and instant access to content, as well as high-speed file transfer.
