Peru Picks Japanese-Brazilian Terrestrial DTV System
May 1, 2009
As widely expected, Peru officially picked the Brazilian "SBTVD" terrestrial DTV standard. SBTVD is based on the Japanese ISDB-T COFDM format with improvements and modifications to better suit the Brazilian market. The Japanese have incorporated the changes in a version of the ISDB-T standard called "ISDB-T International."
While some stations are expected to begin DTV broadcasting next year, Peru does not plan to shut off analog TV until 2023.
