PBS Affiliate WTTW Archives HD With SGL

Network Chicago, a PBS affiliate and home of WTTW has selected Software Generation Ltd., a management software company in Southampton, England, to provide SGL FlashNet as a major part of its HD channel archive.

WWTW has integrated the SGL archive management system with an Avid Media Stream 8000si server and a Storage Tech SL500 Library System, in conjunction with its existing Sundance Digital Automation system. The system went on-air in January.

"We have three phases planned for this archive upgrade. This is phase one, phase two is an expansion of the system, which will include the SD side of our broadcast operation, phase three will see the system encompass our production operation," Ron Yergovich, WTTW vice president of engineering said. "We chose FlashNet because of its price, ease of operation, interoperability with Avid and because of flexibility in growing the system as our requirements expand."

WTTW reaches more than two million viewers in the Illinois region every week with three television broadcast services--WTTW11, WTTWD, and WTTW Create.
