OPB Installs Avitech Multiviewers for HD/SD Production

Oregon Public Broadcasting recently purchased 10 multi-image display processing modules from Avitech for the public broadcaster's recently upgraded HD production facility.

OPB, a statewide network based in Portland, currently produces a majority of the public broadcasting content aired in Oregon (TV and radio), Avitech said. The broadcaster's upgraded HD production facility will facilitate a steady menu of live events, along with its regular production duties.

The Avitech modules (model MCC-8004UE) are used to feed a 65-inch Panasonic display wall with 1920x1200 resolution. Production staffers can view about 40 sources in HD or SD-SDI. Sources include an HD camera, a Sony MVS-8000 production switcher, and a Grass Valley 7500 WB routing switcher managed via an Encore control system.

Avitech said its Cosmos Control Software, which is helping support OPB's system, is Windows-based and can run on any computer with Windows XP or 2000. Cosmos is equipped with internal critical alarm and fault-reporting capabilities.
