New Vision Television Selects Quantel Newsbox HD

U.S. television broadcasting group New Vision Television has acquired four Quantel Newsbox HD server-based news production systems for the following stations: CBS affiliate KOIN in Portland, Ore.; ABC affiliate WJCL in Savannah, Ga.; NBC affiliate KSNW in Wichita, Kan. and NBC affiliate KSNT in Topeka, Kan.

New Vision said it chose the Quantel server solution after an 18-month evaluation process of all available systems on the market. Creating winning news operations was New Vision Television’s reason for purchasing the Newsbox HD systems.

“We were looking at how to address not only our short term needs for a reliable, cost effective and scalable news workflow/edit system, but our long term requirements for ‘home grown’ modification and extension of the product to develop automated, multitier automation and distribution as well as tightly integrated archival solutions,” said New Vision technology consultant Lynn Rowe.

Rowe said some of the benefits Newsbox HD has to offer include:

• Ability to work with a wide range of third party editors
• Deployment of Direct to Edit functionality for P2 and XDCAM file formats via Essence Drivers
• Deployment of CFIS for tighter integration of Final Cut operations
• Integration of HD graphics templates

New Vision Television continues to expand with 17 affiliated television stations owned or managed in markets including Portland, Ore., Honolulu and Birmingham, Ala. The portfolio includes the following network affiliates: five CBS, two ABC, four Fox, two NBC, two CW and two My Network stations.
