The NCTA is now accepting proposals for inclusion in the 2005 NCTA Technical Papers volume. Proposals will be judged by a panel of NCTA Engineering Forum members chaired by Dan Pike, chief technical officer of GCI Cable Inc. Submissions are due Nov. 15, 2004
Authors whose papers are selected for publication will present encapsulations of their work during Technical Sessions at the 2005 National Show, April 3-5 in San Francisco.
Any topic of interest to broadband cable and telecommunications engineering professionals is eligible. Topics of particular interest for 2005 include:
* Approaches to low-cost unified platforms for distribution of voice, video and data services
* Advancements in digital rights management, security, and privacy
* Approaches to enhanced television
* Home networking/wireless communications and their role in cable
* Integrated silicon solutions with applications in cable
* Bandwidth management and maximizing bandwidth utilization
* Video and Voice over Internet Protocol
* Other advanced broadband technology topics related to the cable industry's desire for next-generation architectures
Proposals must provide a 100-word to one-page summary about premise, reference value, content and intended audience. Multiple proposals from an individual are permitted. No previously published texts or marketing pieces will be considered. Selected authors will be expected to complete a technical paper based on the proposed subject by Feb. 14, 2005.
Authors of papers selected for publication will be notified in December. They will need to submit completed papers in hard-copy and electronic forms to NCTA by the Feb. 14 deadline, and prepare a 15-minute oral presentation of the selected paper for The 2005 National Show.
