NBC Universal’s two stations in Miami, NBC affiliate WTVJ-TV and its Telemundo affiliate, WSCV-TV, have transitioned their local newscasts into 1080i. WTVJ is known in the market as NBC6.
It’s the first entry into local HD news for the Miami market. The two stations operate out of a shared facility designed for HD production in Miramar, Fla.
“We are extremely pleased and proud to be first in offering this enhanced television experience to our viewers,” said Ardyth Diercks, WTVJ president and general manager, on the NBC6 Web site. “This newest viewer benefit is in keeping with our rich history of excellence in technology and content.”
NBC6 plans to air about 30 hours of local news and public affairs programming in HD weekly; WSCV-TV will air about 17 hours of local news, and said it will produce local specials in the near future, as well, for south Florida’s Spanish-speaking viewers.
“This is the beginning of a new era for our stations, and it is our commitment to excellence in technological innovation that has been key in getting us to this exciting moment in south Florida broadcasting history,” said WSCV-TV president and general manager Manuel Martinez.
