NBC to Archive Olympics With SGL

NBC's Olympics division will use SGL's FlashNet software to archive video material from the network's coverage of next summer's games in Athens in 2004 and future Olympics.

The purchase is part of a $10 million deal NBC made with the International Olympics Committee in June, when it announced it had secured the U.S. broadcast rights to the games through 2012. The system will incorporate Avid editing systems, media asset management software from Blue Order and Sony's Petasite robotic storage using S-AIT drives. The software allows video to be stored as a digital file instead of on videotape, which simplifies the retrieval of archived material.
