Mobile World Congress: Samsung Phones Home on Omnia HD
February 18, 2009
Samsung is showing its new Omnia HD touchscreen phone that it says is capable of HD video. The demo is underway this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Feb. 16–19. The unit is destined initially for Europe and Asia.
Samsung said the HSDPA-enabled handset features HD recording and decoding. The new unit is a follow-up to the original Omnia model, which captures video in HD quality, and enables viewing on a regular HD set via DLNA technology. The OLED active matrix screen is 3.7 inches in diameter, and the handset has an 8-megapixel camera.
Internal memory starts at 8 GB, and is expandable to 32 GB. And just in case you’re so bedazzled by the bright (albeit tiny) HD screen that you wind up getting lost, this Omnia model comes with its own GPS device with integrated compass.
Samsung said the new HD smartphone will be available in the United Kingdom this summer.
