Media General Stations to Go Full Power With Harris Transmitters

Media General Broadcast Group has awarded a contract to Harris Corp. to convert seven of its stations to full power digital operation.

The upgrade is scheduled to begin in early 2008 and will involve stations in Panama City, Fla.; Johnson City, Tenn.; Florence and Spartanburg, S.C.; Toccoa, Ga.; Jackson, Miss.; and Birmingham, Ala. The existing transmitters will be relocated to the new sites and Harris Apex digital exciters will be added. All transmitters will be fitted with the Harris eCDi transmitter network control and monitoring system. Completion is targeted prior to the FCC mandated Feb. 17, 2009 analog shutoff.

"Harris has always done its homework from a research and development standpoint, which made us feel very comfortable in continuing our exclusive relationship with them as we moved into our early phase of DTV conversion," said Bob Richardson, director of engineering for Media General Broadcast Group.
