Lifetime Installs Miranda Channel Branding and Facility Monitoring Systems

The Lifetime cable television network has selected Miranda channel branding and facility monitoring systems for Lifetime Television, LMN and Lifetime Real Women, which are broadcast from the network's technical operations center in New York City.

Lifetime is using a combination of nine Imagestore and Intuition master control switching and channel branding processors to deliver programming--on both primary and secondary air chains--to the network's affiliates. Four dual-head Kaleido-K2 multi-image display processors monitor signals in all control rooms, with any errors monitored and logged by Miranda's iControl facility monitoring and control solution. All distribution and signal conversion for the on-air and post-production systems is handled through 64 Densité Series frames and card sets.

The Lifetime channel branding installation incorporates the Page Builder channel branding graphics software, which Miranda developed in conjunction with the network. The software allows Lifetime to create multiple, similar on-air graphics elements, including menu and title snipes, using an automated, template-based graphics workflow. Previously, operators had to render each menu combination of titles as individual graphics.

"The iControl system's embedded third-party control applications plus the powerful and customizable logging and monitoring made it the choice for our facility-wide SNMP solution. Once these two systems were chosen, it made sense to utilize the rest of the Miranda product line for optimum interoperability," said Donald R. Jarvis Jr., vice president of engineering for Lifetime Networks.

Lifetime Television, LMN, and Lifetime Real Women are part of Lifetime Entertainment Services, a joint venture of The Hearst Corp. and The Walt Disney Co.
