Valley Broadcasting Company’s KVBC (Las Vegas) has expanded the production of its HD newscasts with an order for 18 Thomson Grass Valley Infinity digital media camcorders.

The Infinity camcorders are being used as part of KVBC’s true file-based news acquisition workflow which includes REV PRO removable media, USB REV PRO digital media drives, and Edius nonlinear editing workstations.

“As the number one news team in the Las Vegas Valley, KVBC’s News 3 relies on journalistic excellence and the latest broadcast technology to be a leader in local newsgathering,” said Lisa Howfield, general manager of KVBC. “The Infinity Digital Media Camcorder gives us the competitive edge to bring high-quality HD news stories to our viewers fast.”

“The Infinity was the perfect choice to bring HD acquisition into the field for News 3,” said Richard Gacovino, chief operations photographer for KVBC’s News 3. “It’s easy to operate, makes fantastic pictures, and brings an entirely new level of efficiency to our ENG workflow.”

Aug. 11, KVBC began broadcasting its local news in high-definition, upconverting standard-definition field footage. KVBC now broadcasts six hours of live news coverage each weekday plus five hours of live news coverage each weekend for a total of 35 hours of HD news each week.
