Front Porch Digital Gets Archiving Patents

Front Porch Digital has been awarded two new U.S. government patents for "methods and apparatus" that are critical to the Content Storage Management functions of global broadcast facilities.

The company's chief technology officer, Brian Campanotti, both defended the patent filings and said that Front Porch was supporting SMPTE's push for open standards.

"These newly awarded patents, along with a patent awarded us in 2005, are vital to our ability to protect the intellectual property behind DIVArchive's unique architecture," said Campanotti. "While we own patents on this innovative technology, we also maintain a commitment to taking an active role in the SMPTE initiative to create open standards."

Front Porch stated that its standards-compliant DIVArchive will enable easy content migration and sharing between DIVArchive and any other standard-compliant archive management vendors.
