Experimental Licenses Granted for Common Carrier (Power line) Systems

The FCC released two lists of experimental actions last week covering the periods from March 1 to April 1, 2003 and April 1 to May 1, 2003.

The April listing included grant of an experimental license to the City of Manassas for current carrier system tests in the 1.7 to 30 MHz band in Manassas, Virginia. The March listing reported Amperion, Inc. was granted an experimental license for current carrier system tests in the 1.7 to 50 MHz band in Dublin, Ohio. It wasn't clear if these grants were for broadband over power line systems or for more conventional narrow bandwidth communications. While neither system proposes operation using FM radio or TV broadcast spectrum, readers in Manassas Virginia and Dublin Ohio may want to keep an ear open for new interference when these systems begin operation.
