EC Accepts Terrestar Application for MSS Service in Europe

TerreStar said Thursday that the European Commission (EC) had accepted its application for a Pan-European 2 GHz MSS S-band spectrum authorization and determined that the application meets EC admissibility requirements.

Its satellite, being manufacturered by Space Systems Loral, must meet the EC's Critical Design Review (CDR) certification. Space Systems Loral was confident it would pass.

With the satellite, TerreStar Europe plans to create a pan-European integrated satellite and ground component network to provide wholesale mobile voice, data and video services across urban, rural and remote regions of Europe.

TerreStar is preparing to launch 2 GHz MSS service in North America using spectrum previously allocated for 2 GHz broadcast auxiliary service use.
