DTC Communications Selects Tandberg Television to Launch IPTV

DeKalb Telephone Cooperative Communications has selected Ericsson Group’s Tandberg Television video processing systems to launch advanced IPTV services.

The Alexandria, Tenn.-based telephone communications service has chosen the Tandberg Mediaplex and iPlex video processing platforms to build a new MPEG-4 AVC video headend to deliver high-quality video in standard definition and high definition to subscriber homes. By building its own video headend, DTC Communications can deliver advanced television services, including interactivity, to subscribers throughout the region, according to the companies.

The deployment includes several of Tandberg Television's Mediaplex-20 video platforms with MPEG-4 AVC encoders and transcoders processing 114 SD channels, and a number of iPlex video processing systems hosting MPEG-4 AVC HD encoders for 10 HD channels. Tandberg Television worked closely with integration partner Dascom Systems Group to build a turnkey satellite receiver system that would ensure reliability.

“Tandberg Television did an outstanding job managing the deployment from start to finish, with a complete understanding of our IPTV ecosystem,” said Les Greer, CEO of DTC Communications. “The advanced technologies incorporated in the Tandberg platform will allow DTC to meet the diverse video needs of our growing customer base both now and into the future.”
