Dome Productions Adds Calrec Console

Toronto, Canada-based Dome Productions is now using a new 64-fader Calrec Sigma audio console in its newest HD production truck.

The mobile production vehicle, which has been dubbed "Thunder," was created as part of Dome's commitment to provide coverage of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. It was ready for use in May and has been in use since for baseball coverage from Toronto, Atlanta and Baltimore.

"The launch was very successful," said Dome's Mike Johnson. "We've had great feedback on the truck and on its audio room. It sets up nicely, and everybody loves to see the familiar platform. We've looked at other consoles, but Calrec's performance, capabilities, and outstanding support mean it's still the best solution for us."

The "Thunder" installation included an optional I/O expansion that allowed the implementation of MADI (multichannel audio digital interface) as the nucleus of the truck's signal distribution. Its use greatly reduced the cable count and helped to simplify routing of signals.

The vehicle was constructed in Dome's Toronto shop in partnership with system integrator, Azcar Technologies.
