DirecTV Bringing Interactive Multi-Screen to Masters

DirecTV will tee up its interactive multi-screen coverage for the Masters with a four-screen Masters Mix Channel, offering four different views of golf’s most fabled event.

The service will combine live CBS and ESPN coverage of the tournament (April 10-13) with access to leader board information, hole-by-hole player stats, a course tour and on-demand Masters video clips.

The Masters Mix Channel will include a view dedicated to the famed “Amen Corner,” another focusing on critical holes 15 and 16, a continuously updated highlight channel showcasing Tournament leaders and their scores, and the CBS national broadcast.

Viewers will also be able to access scores and stats, a top five leader board, Masters trivia and Tournament history by clicking on a small menu icon that appears on each channel.

“We are proud to be a part of the Masters tradition and have the opportunity to offer our customers expanded and enhanced coverage of what is already a special viewing experience for golf fans,” said Chase Carey, president and CEO, DirecTV, Inc.

The Masters Mix Channel will be available on DirecTV Channels 701 (standard-definition) and 706 (high-definition) and will offer the following views within a single screen, including:

  • View One – CBS and ESPN’s live coverage of the tournament.
  • View Two – “Today’s Highlights,” a continuously updating loop of the best shots from the day’s play with voice-over.
  • View Three – “Amen Corner”—the most famous stretch of the course, holes 11, 12 and 13.
  • View Four – holes 15 (the par 5 Firethorn) and 16 (the par 3 Redbud).

Each of the additional three Masters channels is a fully produced channel with its own production crew, additional cameras and announcers. Customers with interactive receivers can highlight any of the four views on the Mix screen to hear live audio on each and expand them to full screen by pressing the select button on their remote.

The Masters Mix comes on the heels of DirecTV’s previous interactive sports services including NFL Sunday Ticket SuperFan, NASCAR Hotpass, Mega March Madness, US Open Tennis, U.S. Open Golf and YES Interactive.
