CTV Outside Broadcast gets tapeless HD workflow from GearBox and EVS

EVS and Gearbox have joined forces to deliver an all-tapeless workflow to European outside broadcast companies, CTV OB. The system encompass tapeless field editing and archiving, and is also compatible with Apple Final Cut Pro.

GearBox has supplied the EVS' XT[2] server for ingest and playout, along with the IPDirector suite for logging and associating metadata to clips, and the XF[2] for portable archiving and transfer capabilities.

The new XT[2] installed for CTV is used to record HD 1080 50i material on site and is then logged on the IPDirector. Selected clips are then transferred to the Final Cut Pro G-Speed XL 6Tb fibre array using the XT[2]'s gigabit Ethernet connection or the XF[2]. The XT[2] natively supports the Apple ProRess422 HD codec, so all clips recorded on the XT[2] are immediately available to the Final Cut Pro stations for editing.

Following the editing stage, the editor exports the sequence to QuickTime so it can be automatically transferred to a selected XT[2] server for playback, even before the copy is complete.
