CES2008: Philips to Show 52-inch Multitouch LCD

January 2, 2008
Philips said it plans to demo a 52-inch multitouch LCD at CES next week which allows touch manipulation of on-screen items (such as picture-in-picture windows) from more than one location on the monitor, similar to Apple’s much smaller iPhone device.

Philips showed a slightly smaller monitor (47 inches) in Japan recently. The new display is the largest of its type in the world, the company said.

The 52-inch screen uses an infrared image sensor to determine human input from fingers or other “tools” and finger movement, as well as similar gestures. It has 1920x1080 resolution. No shipping dates or MSRP have yet been announced.
