'Casino', 'Benefactor' Post on Avid DS Nitris

Avid DS Nitris is the HD post-production gear of choice for "The Casino" a reality show that aired on Fox last summer, and "The Benefactor," currently airing on ABC.

The 10-bit HD system is used for color-correction, graphics and also for simultaneous mastering HD and SD for broadcast.

"The Casino" post-production team shot the series in 720p HD using Panasonic VariCam HD Cinema cameras. The team used also 15 Avid Media Composer systems that shared 8TB of storage on an Avid Unity MediaNetwork system. The team finished and mastered at L.A. Digital.

The post-production team for Mark Cuban's reality show "The Benefactor" is using a Sony HDCam to shoot in 1080i and editing with Avid Media Composer systems. Los Angles-based Matchframe video is the post-production facility.

"With Avid DS Nitris, we can create the 16:9 HD master, then copy the timeline, pan and scan each shot, downconvert to SD and output the 4:3 version," said Bill Admans, Avid DS Nitris senior finishing editor, Matchframe.
