Calibration Tests Coming on Next-Gen Discs

A series of calibration tests and basic HD set-up instructions will be made available in both HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats on Oct. 30, according to the firm producing the instruction discs, Joe Kane Productions.

The HD Basics section (geared mainly to non-professionals) includes six calibration tests designed to maximize HD images, and test patterns with a tri-color filter. Motion picture cinematographer Allen Daviau (who shot “Empire of the Sun,” among others) offers advice on color-grading film for HD presentations.

Joe Kane Productions, headquartered in Valley Village, Calif., is owned by DVD International, an acquisition and development group based in Fairfield, N.J.
