U.K. Digital TV Penetration Approaches 60 Percent

United Kingdom telecommunications regulator Ofcom reported that by Dec. 31, 2004, a total of 59.4 percent of U.K. households received digital television, a 3.5 percent increase from Sept. 30, 2004. This number includes households receiving digital TV by satellite, terrestrial transmitters or cable TV. The number of digital terrestrial television (DTT)-only households at the end of December 2004 was estimated to be around 4,592,920, up from 3,914,920 at the end of September 2004, according to Ofcom. Digital cable TV accounts for 2.5 million of the total number of digital of the total number of U.K.'s digital households, or 17 percent of the total.
