The FCC has allowed licensees to register links in the 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz, and 92-95 GHz bands using the FCC's Universal Licensing System IULS. Effective today, Feb. 8, the ULS will no longer process link registrations and will not be able to assign an interference protection date to any link registration. The sole source for registering links will be the third party database system.
The three database managers have designed the new link registration system (LRS) to work through separate but redundant databases. Before link registrations are completed in LRS, the link has to be successfully coordinated through NTIA and necessary approvals and clearances have been obtained through the FCC.
The FCC advised licensees to submit a proposed link to a database manager as soon as possible and prior to making any required FCC filings. It emphasized that links will not receive an interference protection date until the link is submitted to the LRS.
The three database managers are Denise Finney at Comsearch, Peter Moncure at Frequency Finder and Steve Knauber at Micronet Communications.
