Bexel Adds Grass HD Slo-Mo Cams

Bexel, a broadcast equipment and production services supplier, has purchased two Grass Valley LDK 8300 high-definition slow-motion cameras. The units will be first deployed in connection with NEP Sharpshooters coverage of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” weekly broadcasts during the season.

“We’ve always been impressed with the image quality we get from Grass Valley cameras and the results we're seeing with the new LDK 8300 slow-motion cameras are just stunning,” said Tom Dickinson, Bexel’s chief operating officer. “ESPN continues to up the ante of its production values and the addition of the LDK 8300 to the 'Monday Night Football' telecast is another example of that. For viewers, replays will now feature more clarity and allow them--and the games referees--to better analyze plays immediately after they happen.”

The slo-mo camera uses the same head block as the GV LDK 8000 and takes advantage of the company’s Dynamic Pixel Management sensors to provide 1920x1080 and 1280x720 images at 1X, 2X and 3X normal speeds. The technology provides more than 57 dB of S/N at the 1X capture and 54 dB at the 3X rate, allowing slow-motion images to be mixed seamlessly with those from conventional LDK 8000 cameras.
