Belo Selects Neural for DTV Audio Processing

Several Belo Corp. TV stations have purchased Neural Audio's DTV 5.1 audio processing package featuring the MultiMerge and Neural Surround DownMix Mix-Edit System.

The stations include KVUE-TV/DT in Austin, Texas; KHOU-TV/DT in Houston, Texas; WCNC-TV/DT in Charlotte, N.C.; KENS-TV in San Antonio, Texas; KING-TV/DT and KONG-TV/DT in Seattle, Wash.; KREM-TV/DT and KSKN-TV in Spokane, Wash.; KTVK-TV/DT and KASW-TV/DT in Phoenix, Ariz.; and KMOV-TV/DT in St. Louis, Mo.

MultiMerge uses a detector core that resolves 2.0 stereo and 5.1 surround sound content image changes and upmixes when needed. In addition, the upmix algorithm operates in the frequency domain, which guarantees image stability and fewer artifacts in consumer surround speakers at home, according to the company.

"HD and 5.1 surround sound is a priority with Belo, and we are always looking for affordable solutions that can effectively address interoperability issues such as merging 5.1 and stereo at the local level," said Wayne Kube, Belo technology manager. "With Neural's MultiMerge advanced detector core, our station engineers can guarantee a great 5.1 experience for their audiences."
