Belo Consolidates Master Control in New Orleans With Sundance Digital

Belo has consolidated master control operations at its two New Orleans television stations, WWL and WUPL, using a Sundance Digital multichannel Titan automation system.

WUPL is a recent acquisition for Belo and the company wanted to merge master control operations with those at the existing WWL facility. Belo chose a 4-channel Sundance Digital Titan Automation suite to handle both stations’ NTSC and DTV channels, and to distribute content to NewsWatch 15, the stations’ 24-hour cable news channel.

“We were not only going to a full blown automation system, but also incorporating another TV station’s operations into our existing facility,” said Bob Gass, director of technology for both stations. “It was a change in our operation, but it’s working quite well. The Sundance gear is a good investment and is doing what we need it to do.”

The new Titan configuration includes Sundance Digital’s TitanSync auto-failover redundancy to backup the primary system, and an SQL Data Server for enhanced redundancy. Also included are three Media Prep stations for managing content on the video server, the Intelli-Sat broadcast record manager, as well as the Mirror/Data Mover and News Recorder applications to repurpose newscasts or other live broadcasts for later server-based playback.

Sundance is a division of Avid Technology.
