Ascent Media, WWE Tag-Team on HD-Capable Fiber Links

Systems integrator Ascent Media and World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. are bringing their relationship to a higher level.

Under a set of newly announced agreements, WWE is utilizing dedicated studio space at Ascent Media’s Harbor Plaza facility in Stamford, Conn., for the creation of wraparound elements that are included in WWE syndicated programming packages. In addition, Ascent Media is providing new HD-capable fiber optic links between the new studio space and the existing WWE studio in Harbor Plaza, and to the WWE technical facility also in Stamford.

WWE can use the bandwidth. It upgraded its production to HD earlier this year, using two new trucks from NEP Supershooters, Sony HD cameras and a dual-band, dual-path satellite truck from PSSI.

“Because of the varied nature of our programming, it’s important that we have access to the highest-quality, most reliable production environment,” said Steven Lazas, vice president of broadcast operations for WWE. “Our relationship with Ascent Media has continued to expand because of their proven ability to deliver the technical skills and the breadth of resources we need to grow our business.”
