Andrew Setos Joins New FCC Advisory Council

The first meeting of the FCC Technology Advisory Council (TAC) under its new charter is scheduled for Friday, April 15. The Public Notice announcing the meeting listed the members of the Council. The members come from a wide range of telecommunications organizations and companies. Andrew Setos, executive vice president at Fox Broadcasting is the only broadcaster in the group. The chair of the TAC is Dr. Robert Lucky from Telecordia Technologies. See the Public Notice for a complete list of members.

At the April 15 meeting, the TAC will consider the topics of wireless device security and strategic challenges for cybersecurity. The objective of the meeting will be to educate the FCC about new technology trends and to advise the commission of potential regulatory obstacles to its development and deployment. The morning session will examine the vulnerability of smart phones to viruses and general Bluetooth security issues. The afternoon session will begin with a presentation by Bill Hancock, chief security officer at Savvis and concludes with a discussion of topics for the next meeting. Both sessions allow time for open discussion between TAC members and the speakers.
