ABC News Taps Miranda for New Election Graphics

ABC News used Miranda’s Xmedia Suite graphics workflow tools and Vertigo XG graphics processors for its Times Square and 66th Street coverage of the U.S. presidential elections this year.

ABC News, which has used the Xmedia Suite graphics tools for its presidential, primary and mid-term election graphics since 2002, presented its HD and SD viewers with new graphics including 3D maps, full-screen election boards, and a live double election ticker with staggered results for presidential, senate and governor races.

All of these graphics were controlled by the Xmedia Suite, using 20 Xplay graphics sequence controllers, which were fully integrated with ABC’s newsroom and automation systems.

ABC’s Times Square and 66th Street news centers were equipped to drive over 20 HD and SD on-air graphics devices, including 3D and 2D graphics processors, video walls, and touch screen control panels for ABC anchors.

“ABC’s election graphics were fresh, engaging and highly dynamic,” said Raagi Pandya, product manager for playout and graphics at Miranda Technologies. “This was a big and very exciting project, and we’re delighted to have had the opportunity to work so closely with ABC once more.”
