3GSM World Congress: TI Puts 720p in Phones

Even deep in the heart of Texas, bigger is not always better. Texas Instruments this week is showing one of the first application processors of its kind devised to play 720p images. The technology is targeted mainly to advanced mobile phones. TI unveiled its next-gen technology at the 3GSM World Congress being held in Barcelona, Spain.

The technology (known as "OMAP3430") integrates the new OpenGL ES 2.0 graphic standard designed to produce multi-dimensional graphics for a phone handset, similar to portable gaming devices. It does not record in 720p. Instead, HD content can be stored and viewed on the mobile handset, or the phone can be attached to a projector or large-screen TV for viewing, according to Embedded.com.
