'10TV News-HD' Nears Launch for Central Ohio

WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, is premiering central Ohio's first local newscasts produced in HD with its 5 p.m. program starting on Monday, April 2.

As part of the station's overall transition to DTV, the CBS affiliate will re-brand its local news product as "10TV News-HD". The newscasts will air in 1080i.

WBNS-TV said it began its high definition studio and control room migration a few months ago and will spend the next few weeks producing new news graphics and remodeling its set to be "more vibrant" for HD. It plans to upgrade its equipment throughout the year to allow for ENG HD coverage of stories on location.

WBNS-TV aired what could have been the first "live true-HDTV sporting event" in the country with the Ohio State-West Virginia college football game back in September 1998.
