Scopus launches complete DVB-S2 system

Scopus Video Networks announced last week the successful completion of its first transmission and reception over satellite of a complete DVB-S2 solution.

The trial, conducted in collaboration with satellite service provider R.R. Satellite Communications (RRSat), used Scopus’ IRD-2900 MPEG-2 professional receiver decoder and modulators.

With the new DVB-S2 transmission scheme, satellite operators can save up to 30 percent of their bandwidth consumption.

The company demonstrated its DVB-S2 technologies at IBC2005 in Amsterdam last week where it showed end-to-end DVB-S2 transmission and receiving solutions for satellite contribution, DSNG, and distribution to terrestrial and cable headends. DVB-S2 enhances bandwidth savings, optimize operational expenses, decrease transmission power and reduce antenna size.

Scopus’ DVB-S2 platforms include its professional IRD-2900 decoder, modulators and DSNG encoders targeting the headend broadcast teleports and mobile news gathering markets.
