New Audio Processing Gear on Tap from Linear Acoustic

(click thumbnail)Linear Acoustic will showcase its next-generation Aeromax 5.1-XL 10-channel TV audio processor with built-in Dolby Digital (AC-3) encoding at NAB. The solution features a loudness controller, upmixer, and metadata manager. Full-time two-channel downmixing supports legacy analog paths.

Built-in AutoMAX processing fixes two-channel audio wrongly signaled as 5.1 channels. The processor accepts 5.1 network audio, two-channel local audio and digital or analog auxiliary/EAS stereo audio. HD-SDI audio input and internal Dolby Digital (AC-3) encoding are available as options.

The company will also show the StreamStacker-HD e2 (e-squared) codec, which can carry multiple programs with surround sound, audio metadata, and associated auxiliary data. The latest version carries Dolby-compatible metadata, plus it can generate and regenerate metadata in both the encoder and decoder, allowing simple editing or correction of parameters. A GPI-controlled soft-bypass mode allows installation of the system in series with other coding systems, such as Dolby E, to support legacy content.

The Linear Acoustic LA-5180 audio metadata frame synchronizer and generator supports both DTV transmission and remote or studio production. The unit accepts audio metadata via a standard RS-485 serial input or as delivered inside the VANC space of an HD-SDI stream. The LA-5180 can also be used as a standalone generator, with eight presets for both Dolby E and AC-3 metadata.
