Strategy Analytics report sees HD via the Web becoming a reality

A new report from Strategy Analytics contends that HDTV on the Web is about to become a reality as the technical barriers hampering delivery of online HD content via the Internet are slowly coming down.

The report, “Online HD: Disney's ABC Throws Down Gauntlet to Competitors and Access Providers,” points to the recent launch of streaming HD shows on the ABC.com Web site and a group of technology developers, such as Move Networks, Vividas and Itiva, as evidence that HD via the Web is becoming a reality.

The report, which examines the implications of HD video streaming and looks at emerging digital media solutions, finds that access network capacity and control will be key issues in determining whether broadband becomes a viable alternative for HD video and TV delivery.
