Retailer reports accelerating flat panel sales despite consumer confusion

Best Buy reported triple-digit sales of flat panel TVs in December as interest in HDTV and home theaters goes mainstream with one in three consumers being interested in the concept of a home entertainment system, according to a recent study commissioned by the retailer.

The research, conducted by Forrester Data for Best Buy, also found that consumers are confused about the pieces of a home theater and HDTV and how they work. The retailer is taking steps to educate consumers, including offering Magnolia Home Theater centers in more than 100 stores nationally where consumers experience comfortable demo rooms, work with home theater consultants and sign up for in-home consultation and design.
