New poll finds men willing to ‘sacrifice’ for plasma HDTV
A new survey says many married men are negotiating with their spouses and concede on several issues to receive a go-ahead from their mates to purchase a plasma TV.
Married men are willing to compromise to gain approval from their wives to purchase new plasma television sets, according to a survey commissioned by Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company.
The survey, which was conducted by New York City-based Penn Schoen & Berland Associates, sought to determine consumer attitudes and knowledge about flat panel display options.
The survey found that men demonstrated a greater interest than women in owning a plasma television. It also said many married men would negotiate with their spouses and concede on several issues to receive a go-ahead from their mates for a plasma TV.
According to the survey:
- Thirty-six percent of the married men would offer to do the household chores for a year;
- Fifty percent are willing to let their in-laws visit as often as they want;
- Fifty-seven percent said their significant other could select all of their vacation destinations for a year;
- Sixty-eight percent are willing to let their significant other choose the location where the plasma TV would sit in the house.
A majority of those surveyed also said they wanted to receive or purchase a plasma TV for the holidays. More than 60 percent opt for plasma HDTVs after studying available options.
According to the poll, consumers compare the technologies, features and options online, in advertising and during conversations with friends and associates before going to a store to look at a new TV.
Confusion continues to exist among consumers when it comes to flat screen choices, according to the poll. Fifty-one percent of respondents reported being confused when comparing the features and benefits of plasma and LCD-based televisions.
One thousand respondents nationwide participated in the survey, with a margin of error of the overall sample of +/- 3.1 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
