Major cable programmer relies on Wegener satellite gear for HD program service

A large U.S. cable programmer will begin using Wegener satellite receiver equipment to distribute its timely HD video programming service to its cable and satellite affiliates, the company said Dec. 20.

The network, which Wegener declined to identify, recently launched and is currently distributed to millions of television subscribers nationwide through agreements with major cable, multiple system operators and satellite direct to home services.

As part of its daily broadcast operations, the network will employ a full complement of Wegener linear video distribution solutions, including Unity 4600 satellite receivers, COMPEL network control system and COMPEL encryption. The Unity 4600 receiver is a professional-grade device that provides digital reception of SD and HD television signals. COMPEL Control will provide the network with the ability to support multiple live programs, regionalize commercial insertions and remotely control and retune the company’s receivers.
