European households receiving digital television will grow from about 47 million today to 108 million by 2009, according to information from IMS Research.

According to Ian Weightman, senior VP at IMS Research, 14 million of the 108 million in 2009 will receive broadcast HD programming, accounting for about seven percent of all TV households in Europe. Roughly 8 million HDTVs will be sold in Europe in 2009, he added.
