German Premiere plans HD service launch

German pay-TV operator Premiere has selected Philips to supply set-top boxes for its HDTV service in November.

Philips will produce Premiere-enabled HDTV set-top boxes for broad distribution via Philips retailers in Germany and Austria. The set-top boxes will be based on the ISO-compliant MPEG4 standard and will incorporate HDMI content protectors with HD connectivity technology.

Premiere plans to offer HD sports coverage, films and documentaries.
