CanalSat deploys TANDBERG Television system for HDTV launch

French satellite pay-TV operator CANALSAT has selected TANDBERG Television’s high-definition MPEG-4 AVC video encoding and distribution system for the launch of its HD service, which will begin later this month.

CanalSat has deployed a TANDBERG Television HD video headend with statistical multiplexing and TANDBERG EN5990 HD MPEG-4 AVC encoders. The use of TANDBERG Television's MPEG-4 AVC encoding systems will enable CanalSat to achieve efficient HD bandwidth use, more than halving the bit rate required by HD MPEG-2.

For CanalSat's HD rollout, TANDBERG Television has designed a redundant system based on the EN5990 HD AVC encoder and TANDBERG Reflex statistical multiplexing.
