BD-Live takes one step closer to reality

Last week, Sony began offering a new Blu-ray Disc player nationwide that supports BonusView and is BD-Live ready.

The new BDP-S350 player’s BonusView picture-in-picture feature supports BonusView content available on select new Blu-ray Disc home video releases. It also comes ready for BD-Live, which will be enabled later this year through a firmware update via the Internet and the player’s Ethernet port. When enabled, BD-Live will give viewers access to Internet-based interactive content features — something long anticipated by Blu-ray Disc proponents.

The player also will allow users to connect an optional flash storage device for local storage of BD-Live.
