TVB Tech Alert: Sony NXCAM Gear Bowed

LAS VEGAS: Sony brought out its new NXCAM line in the United States and Europe last week. The HXR-NX5U (U.S.) and HXR-NX5E (Europe)are the professional camcorder models represent Sony’s first integrated pro model to record in AVCHD on memory cards. (It’s HXR-MC1 point-of-view recorder-camera combo has likewise format features.)

Both record 1920x1080 at 24 Mbps, in interlace or progressive, and both have GPS functionality that embeds the related metadata during recording. The U.S. model supports native 1080/24p, 720/60p and MPEG-2, has HD-SDI and HDMI outputs and two-channel linear PCM audio capability.

The HXR-NX5 units feature Sony’s 20x optical zoom G lens and can record on Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo, its $800 HXR-FMU128 128 GB Flash Memory Unit, which will hold 11 hours at 25 Mbps, or on SDHC cards that are at least Class 4.List price for the U.S. model is $4,950.
