Scripps takes HD channels live with OmniBus
July 26, 2006
Scripps Networks has taken its Great American Country (GAC), HGTV HD and Food Network HD channels live on its new OmniBus Systems Colossus automation package, which was recently installed at the network's Knoxville, TN, broadcast headquarters. Scripps launched HGTV HD in April, GAC in the middle of June, and the Food Network HD on June 30. The network plans to shift the rest of its seven networks onto OmniBus automation by the close of 2006.
The OmniBus automation system installed at Scripps controls a video server system and a hierarchical storage management (HSM) archiving system. In addition to facilitating the migration and launch of the network's existing and new channels, both SD and HD, the OmniBus-based playout infrastructure provides flexibility and scalability to accommodate future expansion of Scripps' network offerings.
