TVB Tech Alert: Fraunhofer Eye-tracking Display

DRESDEN, GERMANY: A German technology firm has developed a display that also functions like a camera. Researchers at Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems created the technology from interlaced photodetector cells similar to those used in cameras, with display pixels, according to Technology Review.

The combination of the two allows for the creation of a wearable display that both show moving images as well as track nearby movement. Fraunhofer’s Michael Scholles said the technology could be used by aircraft pilots of medical personnel. Researchers envision it being integrated with an “augmented-reality” system, TR said.
