CEA Opens Nominations for DTV Awards
The Consumer Electronics Association will begin accepting nominations for the 2002 Academy of Digital Television Pioneers (DTV Academy) Awards on Jan. 9, coinciding with the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The annual awards, which will be presented at CEA's HDTV summit on March 10, recognize excellence in all aspects of digital content development and delivery, analog-to-digital transition leadership and the manufacture of HD television.

Members of the DTV Academy, a group of more than 150 individuals involved in DTV from broadcasting and program development to consumer electronics, government officials and the media, select the nominees.

This year's awards span 12 categories: digital broadcast network and local broadcaster, DTV cable system, DTV satellite service, DTV sporting event, original DTV material, DTV industry leadership, DTV government leadership, DTV retailer leadership, DTV journalism and STV satellite programmer.

New this year is the People's Choice Award for the best HDTV program, which is the only DTV Academy Award voted on by the public. CES attendees can vote for their favorite HDTV program at the CEA booth in the Grand Lobby or South Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center until the show closes Jan. 12.
