WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh Launches HD News
WTAE-TV is now doing its local newscasts in HD, according to the station“s Web site. The Hearst-Argyle ABC affiliate is doing HD in the studio, including ED weather and traffic graphics. The station first started passing through network HD in 1999.

The in-house transition to HD capability has occurred in phases. The station debuted a new set last year, and progressively created the technical set-up. Kave Kasperek, WTAE chief engineer, said that ENG crews will be outfitted with 16:9 digital cameras in the next phase.
