Broadcast Staffing Firm to Lay Off 100
WASHINGTON: Around 100 people working in
television production and post-production under a Team Broadcast Services
contract will be laid off next month, the Washington
Business Journal reports. TBS had been contracted to staff the Middle
East Broadcasting Networks based in Springfield, Va., a suburb south of
Washington, D.C.
MEBN operates Alhurra Television and Radio Sawa, which produce and broadcast
news and information to 22 countries throughout the Middle East, North Africa
and Europe. Both are funded through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. Team
recently lost the contract and will extricate operations by the end of
November. A company executive said he expects MEBN to allow the Team
contractors to apply directly for jobs they had been doing.
The Journal said the Team staff
positions included editing, master control operation and studio personnel.
