$100, 37-inch, Sony Flat-screen For Sale

Faux TVSAN LEANDRO, CALIF.: There are no free lunches, nor are there 37-inch, Sony flat-screen TVs for $100, but there are bizarre imitations. A 52-year-old man in suburban San Francisco was busted for selling what he purported to be a Sony, 1080p 37-incher, the San Jose Mercury News reports. It was actually an oven door decorated with Sony logo and various “Full HD” stickers, and a $1,949 Best Buy price tag. RCA cables and a remote were shrink-wrapped onto the black-glassed door for effect.

The man was pulled over by police after they’d received an anonymous call from an intended patsy, to whom oven-door entrepreneur tried to peddle a TV out of the trunk of his 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Police confiscated the oven door. No charges were filed.
